JAISALMER: Barmer district has been witnessing heavy rainfall and flooding due to the landfall of Cyclone Biparjoy. As a result, the district administration, along with the Indian army and other authorities, has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of the affected population. Evacuations have been carried out, and relief operations are underway to mitigate the impact of the cyclone.

Since Thursday night, several areas in Barmer district, including Chauhatan, Gudamalani, Dhorimanna, and Bakhasar, have been experiencing continuous rainfall. The district administration promptly responded by relocating approximately 5,000 people from low-lying areas to safer locations, such as government schools and public buildings. Adequate provisions of food and water have been arranged for the affected individuals.
The Indian army has taken charge of preventive measures in the cyclone-affected areas. Multiple squads have been rehearsing relief and rescue operations and conducting assessments of vulnerable locations. A team has been deployed in the Kawas area to monitor the situation closely. Additionally, two teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been stationed in Chauhatan and other affected areas.
Barmer collector Arun Purohit and SP Digant Anand are actively patrolling the affected regions to keep a close watch on the situation.
In Jaisalmer, around 100 families residing in the low-lying Dabla village have been safely relocated. The district administration, in coordination with the army, Border Security Force (BSF), and other authorities, is taking comprehensive measures to address the cyclone’s impact. The BSF has established a control room to facilitate coordination and assistance in the border areas. Local train services between Jodhpur and Barmer, as well as Barmer to Munabao, have been suspended for safety reasons. The heavy rainfall and strong winds accompanying the cyclone have caused significant damage. Electricity poles have fallen in multiple villages, and trees have been uprooted, disrupting power supply and posing risks to infrastructure. While some temporary structures have suffered damage, no loss of life has been reported thus far. Roads in various areas have also been affected by the downpour. Jaisalmer collector Tina Dabi assured the public that the administration is actively responding to the situation. The evacuation of 100 families from Dabla village has been successfully carried out, with the assistance of the tehsildar and a dedicated team. All personnel associated with disaster management and civil defense have been instructed to remain vigilant and prepared to tackle the cyclone’s aftermath.
