U.S. forces hit two sites in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other “affiliated groups,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said. The strikes come as Washington warns against an expansion of the Israel-Gaza war, and seeks to deter further attacks against U.S. troops in the region that have resulted in 21 American personnel suffering minor injuries this month. The U.N. General Assembly will meet Friday as calls grow for a cease fire and after the U.N. Security Council failed again to adopt a position to stop the carnage.
